Frequently asked questions
How much will my appointment cost?
It costs nothing at all.
Purple Clinic’s services are always free to anyone who thinks they may be pregnant. Our expenses are covered by private donors committed to the idea that the best way to promote healthy choices around abortion is to empower people with good information in a safe, low-pressure environment. We’re not selling anything. We want what’s best for you.
Who will know about my appointment?
Just our medical staff and anyone you choose to tell.
Appointments are confidential, which means we won’t disclose your visit without your permission. Not to other people, not to other organizations and not to your insurance company.
How long does an appointment last?
Your first telehealth call with a nurse will last around 30-45 minutes. Clinic visits take about an hour.
How soon can I get an appointment?
If your first call is during business hours, we’ll connect you to a nurse immediately for a telehealth appointment. Clinic visits usually happen within 48 hours of your first call.
What if I don't live in Illinois?
Purple Clinic nurses are licensed in the State of Illinois, and our physical locations are all in the State of Illinois.
If you live outside of Illinois, you can still make an appointment at an Illinois clinic if you’re able to travel there. You can also make a telehealth appointment, but you’ll need to be inside the State of Illinois when you place your video call or phone call with our nurse. Our health system won’t connect you from another state.
You can chat online with us from anywhere.
My period is late, am I pregnant?
Not necessarily. A late period might be an early sign of pregnancy, but there are other reasons your menstrual cycle could change too.
Even if you’ve taken an at-home pregnancy test, it’s best to confirm results with a medical professional. That’s why a pregnancy test is the first step at a Purple Clinic appointment.
How are we different from Planned Parenthood?
Planned Parenthood has a broader range of services – and they bill for them. That means you’ll need to provide payment or insurance for services like ultrasounds + pregnancy tests. Planned Parenthood is also an abortion provider, which means they have a financial incentive for you to terminate your pregnancy.
Purple Clinic’s goal is to give you the information you need to make the best decision with personal medical information and a nurse consult.
